Gangs of Wasseypur II is action at its realistic brilliance, going forward with the end of its first part, where a man dies and revenge sought.
This sequel is even more spellbinding than its first part. It is about mafia wars in the newly constituted Jharkhand, previously a part of Bihar state, situated in the heartland of India.
Sardar Khan’s son – Faisal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) supposedly is living a life leading to nowhere. Smoking cigarettes and hookah and living in his own world, with no aim or aspiration in life.
His father’s death is avenged by his brother Danish (Vineet Singh) and this kick starts the age old rivalry seemingly which appeared to be laid aside.
This part is centered around Faisal Khan – his transition to a feared gangster, forming new allies, wooing his lady love and a typical cool style of eliminating his enemies.
This fictional version of Jharkhand mafia wars with it’s graphic presentation, where it is just a daily thing to accept challenge to life (the motorbike sequence), or that of playing with a blade on his tongue by a school going kid, and even that of riding pillion on a two wheeler, pumping out bullets and escaping easily.
We have just read it in the papers. Here we have the vivid moving audio visual which just seem very realistic. In this heartland, there is rendition by a brass band at the mourning ceremonies, mothers provoking their sons to seek revenge of his father’s death.
A typical character in this version is that of Faisal’s stepbrother – Definite ( played by Zeishan Quadri) .
The protagonist in this part is Nawazuddin Siddiqui with his best ever authentic act, and is romantically paried with the incredible Huma Qureshi. Richa Chadda and Tigmanshu Dhulia are just realistic. One of the many sequences is where Pankaj Tripathi just simply guns down his sister, and the lighter ones are when Nawazuddin buys a pager or that of seeking permission from his girl friend to have a relationship with her.
This one has manic pace throughout its narrative and a dramatic climax with blazing guns and bloodspilling glory and a never seen before raw and ruthless action on the Indian screen.
It is a seemingly realistic, remarkable and a dark action thriller.
